Error Code / Message Meaning Suggested Action
E1  Too little blood applied     Repeat test with a new strip; ensure sufficient blood (≥ 0.6 µL) after flashing drop prompt.
E2 Used/test strip inserted more than once Insert a fresh, sealed Contour Next strip and retest. 
E3 Test strip inserted upside-down     Remove strip and insert correctly; retest.
E4 Wrong strip type used (incompatible strip model) Use only Contour Next test strips, insert again, and retest.
E6 Moisture-damaged strip     Discard strip; retest with a new one stored properly. 
E8 Strip or test error not otherwise categorized Retest with a new strip; contact Customer Service if persists.
E10/E20-E99 Software or hardware/system error; invalid date/time error (in communication mode) Power cycle the meter; reset time/date if needed; contact support if error remains.
Lo Blood glucose below measurable range (< 20 mg/dL) Treat immediately for hypoglycemia; wash hands and retest. Contact healthcare provider.
Hi Blood glucose above measurable range (> 600 mg/dL) Wash hands and retest; consult healthcare provider if result is confirmed.

Troubleshooting checklist below:

  • Wash and dry hands thoroughly before testing.

  • Store strips in sealed vial, below 86 °F, away from moisture.

  • Ensure temperature is within operational range (~42 to 113 °F).

  • Run regular control solution tests after opening a new strip vial or encountering repeat errors.
